Flamenco in Madrid

TRAVEL REPORT:

Flamenco, which originated in Spain two centuries ago, is a tripartite art: singing, dance, and guitar is puncuated by hand claps and foot stamping. The flamenco song (cante) is moody, with roots in Moorish musical traditions, and the art form is considered one of the richest and most singular varieties of music in the world.

During our 72 hours in Madrid, we took in a flamenco show at Corral de la Moreria,the most famous flamenco Tablao in the world, where we saw Anabel Moreno perform. She has performed for the King and Queen of Spain at the Culture Awards Ceremony, and has worked in television, theatre, and ballet companies. She also teaches dance.

Watching her perform was magical; it was almost as if she put a spell on the audience, each movement hypnotizing us deeper and deeper into her trance. For an hour, we were transported into another world.
