New Dali Museum

In true Surrealist style, the new Dali museum in St. Petersburg, Florida uses repetitive forms, especially spirals, for a subliminal reference to Salvador Dali’s fascination with them and the use of them in his art.

The $36-million building, a glass and concrete monolith, has amorphously shaped glass structures that the architect, Yann Weymouth, named the Glass Enigma-a homage to Buckminster Fuller’s famous geodesic domes of the 1950s, one of which crowns Dali’s Teatre Museu in Figures, Spain.

Debuted in January 2011, the new museum is more than double the exhibition space of the old Dali Museum, and is considered the world’s most comprehensive collection of Dali work. If you get a chance to visit St. Petersburg, don’t miss this museum-it is truly incredible!
