It’s been my dream for a long time to write about Croatia for the New York Times, and this Thanksgiving, I have a lot to be thankful for. Did you know the cravat (necktie) originated in Croatia? Read the article to find out more about Croatia and discover some special items you can only find there (international shipping is available at most shops so you can order gifts in time for the holidays!)
Thanks to BBC Travel, I was able to travel (in my memories) back to a Croatian island of wellness, which has unique healing properties. I think we can all use a dose of sea and sunshine right now! You can read my BBC Travel story about the history of quarantine, below:
Dubrovnik: The medieval city designed around quarantine
Here’s my latest feature for BBC Travel about Croatia’s famous cheese from the island of Pag (link below):
Thrilled to share the news that “La Parada,” my recently published essay in Panorama: The Journal of Intelligent Travel, was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. It traces my 14-year relationship with my former NYC landlady, who was like family, and the stopover I had in San Miguel de Allende, which finally allowed me to grieve.
Panorama: The Journal of Intelligent Travel’s Lost issue features many moving narratives about loss, but also illuminates the journey to being found. Be sure to check out the Streetview section, which I edited.

I sinned and made ‘little God-cheaters’ at a monastery in south-west Germany — for BBC Travel:

I wrote about my travels in Dalmatia, the sublime state of fjaka, and my engagement to Jaidev Shergill in Dubrovnik for BBC Travel:
